While some people like to ride bikes and take their dogs along with them in a pet basket or trailer, not everyone has or wants to ride a bike.  A pet stroller is great for someone who likes to walk.  One of the best pet strollers on the market for the best price that I could find is the Classic 4-Wheel Pet Stroller.  At less than $40 it is something to consider if you have a small dog who can’t keep up or one that is elderly yet you don’t want to leave behind.

With its ease in setting up and folding down, it takes about 5 seconds to prepare it for your dog and makes it easy to take with you in a vehicle.

The large storage basket gives you plenty of room to take along a leash, water bowl, treats, poop bags and your own personal items.  And of course the cup holders on the frame give you a place to put your latte, cup of coffee, or bottle of water.  In between the cup holders is a compartment for your keys with a snap down cover, which many people seem to like.  The padded handlebar adds comfort for your hands while pushing.

The front and rear entry make it easy to get your pet in and out of one of the best pet strollers around.  There is plenty of ventilation in the top, front and rear of this Classic Pet Stroller and the mesh covering keeps those irritating bugs out.  Some sellers offer a rain cover included at a slightly higher cost than without.

This pet stroller is easy to push because of the 6.5 inch wheels, making it ideal for hiking on easy trails, walking through the park or through your neighborhood.

One woman acquired this Classic 4-Wheel Pet Stroller from Amazon.com for her 12 lb. newly adopted poodle and said “he fits it perfectly. He is able to sit up with plenty of head room and lay down and stretch out as well.”  He adjusted immediately to it and after using it for three solid months of summer fun, “it has held up wonderfully!”

One woman takes her 2 house cats out in the stroller for a walk, therefore getting them out of the house, yet avoiding the problem of picking up fleas from the grass.

Another woman in Brooklyn, NY, takes her cats to the vet in the stroller, making it much easier than carrying them in a crate.  She says she gets lots of looks and questions, but the convenience is worth the “crazy cat lady” comments.  She says the stroller handles the uneven sidewalks and curbs and is well worth the cost.

A Couple of Minor Negative Aspects of One of the Best Pet Strollers, But Basically Fixable

Even though this Classic 4-Wheel Pet Stroller may be one of the best pet strollers on the market, it does have some negatives.  Several purchasers commented that the instructions for assembling the stroller were not very comprehensive.  The rear wheel assembly seems to be a bit tough, but according to one review, simply place the rear wheel on the bar, use a tool to pry the clip open and place it on the bar, then snap the plastic round cover on.  Following these instructions may save a bit of frustration.

There is some concern from purchasers about the small gap at both ends of the zipper where a very small dog could possibly get its head through and push out of the carrier.  The good thing about the stroller being pushed in front of the handler as opposed to a rear bicycle basket or trailer is that you would be able to see if your small dog is attempting an escape.  To avoid this, get your dog used to the stroller before going on a lengthy walk by placing him in it for short periods of time using treats, etc. to associate the stroller with good things so he will not struggle to get out.  If there is a point along your walk where your dog seems to be trying to escape, it could be that he needs a potty break or a drink of water or just a stretch, at which time you can leash him up and let him walk a little.

A possible solution for the gap at the ends of the zipper is to place a towel or blanket or something on top of the padded cushion already in place to cover the gaps and make them less noticeable to your dog.

There were a couple of comments concerning the front wheels not working properly, such as turning while you are going straight and then not straightening out.  This could have been a defect on those particular strollers or maybe they were not assembled properly.  The majority of the comments stated that the stroller was very easy to push and they did not have any trouble with the front wheels turning unexpectedly.

There doesn’t seem to be an attachment within the stroller for your dog’s harness but one customer suggested looping the leash around a side pole.  The sturdiness of the unit doesn’t really require harnessing your dog within it, though, unless you have a wild one that you think may want to escape.

Another thing to consider is that this stroller is meant for small dogs, nothing over 30 lbs.

In researching products, I will usually find several negative aspects that sometimes can’t be remedied.  But for the cost of the Classic 4-Wheel Pet Stroller, there don’t seem to be many negatives that can’t be fixed.  It really does seem to be one of the best pet strollers on the market for anyone wanting to take their little dog or cat along with them on short or long walks.

Oops. The dog is supposed to ride in the stroller, not push it!
